Overview: Operates multi-call switchboard console for Medical Center. Provides routine information and directs call to appropriate person or locations. Insures vendors, visitors and customers are directed to the proper location when the reception desk is closed. Position requires utilization of a computer workstation. Responsibilities: 1. Activates, deactivates and transfers patient phones. 2. Answers and screens calls: a. Dispatch properly b. Keep updated extension and pager list. 3. Answer inquires from within hospital: a. Physician phone and pager numbers b. Extension numbers c. Provide phone use instruction, etc. 4. Silent page parties as needed. 5. Provide overhead paging for stats, codes, disaster drills, fire drills, ambulance calls, vehicles blocking emergency access, visiting hours and whatever administration deems necessary. 6. Monitor alarm panel and fire printer reporting any incidence to Engineering. 7. Report all phone service calls to Help Desk 8. Notify Clinical Engineering of any problems with the remote paging system. 9. Monitor activity throughout the Medical Center on security system. 10. Monitor and control access through the front entrance during the night shift. 11. Maintains appropriate petty cash to be dispensed for emergency purposes. 12. Refund and fill out voucher for monies lost in vending machines. 13. Maintain log of keys dispensed. 14. On a weekly basis, check trunks (120 in all) in use on 15. Dispenses employee payroll checks as directed. 16. Receives payment for telephone and television rental. 17. Maintains updated information related to patient admissions, discharges and transfers. 18. Completes given job duties in a timely manner. 19. Performs multiple job duties during given work shifts. 20. Responsive to needs of others. 21. Basic data entry computer skills. 22. Ability to maintain composure and degree of professionalism during stressful periods. 23. Ability to verbally communicate in a professional manner at all times. 24. Communicate patient information following established procedures. 25. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent required. 2. Knowledge of computers and has the ability to keyboard for extended periods required. 3. Excellent verbal communications skills with a clear and courteous telephone voice required 4. Two or more years of customer service in a retail, service, medical or other business environment or additional education in related field or telecommunications switchboard required. 5. Ability to work effectively under pressure and in emergency situations required. 6. Ability to read proficiently and spell correctly required. 7. Must be well organized. As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided. Options:
